A wide display face of Afghan Lapis
This polished Lapis Lazuli freeform from Badakhshan, Afghanistan is made to be seen from the front. It is 13.4 cm long and 11.8 cm wide, and only 2.0 cm thick, so most of its 424 grams is spread across a large polished face. The lazurite is fine-grained and deep royal blue, with a high-gloss finish.
Pyrite across the surface
Gold pyrite shows as veins and small clusters over the blue. Over a face this size you get plenty of contrast, and the metallic flecks move as the light changes. To read more about what pyrite means for Lapis, see our Afghan Lapis Lazuli buying guide.
How to display it
Because it is broad and slim, the piece suits an easel stand, which shows the whole face. It will also rest on a shelf or inside a cabinet. See our write-up on Lapis Lazuli decor for ideas on using Lapis at home.
