Sourced from the prestigious pegmatite fields of the Karakoram range, this 48.6ct specimen features a primary Almandine Garnet crystal with a distinct natural "etched" surface. Unlike the sharp, smooth faces of standard garnets, this crystal underwent a natural dissolution process late in its formation. The result is a surface covered in intricate, geometric pits and "v-shaped" hillocks that catch the light in a unique, frosted shimmer.
The garnet displays the deep, saturated burgundy-to-red color characteristic of the Almandine variety. It sits in a high-contrast position atop a white Feldspar matrix. The stark white of the feldspar acts as a natural spotlight, allowing the dark, rich tones of the garnet to be the focal point of the specimen. At 31mm wide, this is an excellent thumbnail-to-small-cabinet piece that tells a story of the shifting chemical environments within a gem pocket.
